About this work
Schumann’s second Romance Op. 28, marked Einfach, places an inner melody within continuous arpeggios. The hands share the texture: selected notes must be sustained like a voice while the others maintain a flexible and discreet motion.
The middle section broadens the register, thickens the chords and shifts accents through syncopation. The return does not mechanically repeat the opening: secondary voices remain active and guide the piece towards a more restrained coda.
Isolate the melody and play it alone with its phrasing, then restore accompanying notes at low volume. Keep the wrists mobile in arpeggios and prepare every sustained note so the pedal enriches harmony without creating all the continuity by itself.
