Divertissements Op. 1 n°6

About this work

The sixth Divertissement, Op. 1, is a Marcia in F major and 4/4. The sixth string is lowered to F: this open bass gives weight to the supports and allows Sor to build chords, runs and repeated notes above it. The march character comes from a steady pulse and firm articulation rather than a hard attack.

Across two pages, forte and piano episodes alternate with dotted rhythms, triplets, bass lines and full chords. The texture changes often, while repeats and cadences keep the form clear. Chordal passages require the left hand to prepare a complete shape; runs need a more lateral movement.

Tune the sixth string to F and check it against neighbouring chords. Practise each texture separately, then connect transitions through their shared bar. Alternate right-hand fingers on repeated notes if that steadies the rhythm. Keep rests clean and let dynamic contrast provide the relief.
