Recuerdos de la Alhambra

About this work

Recuerdos de la Alhambra sets an almost suspended melody above an accompaniment that keeps moving. The tremolo creates the impression of a sustained line, although every note has to be repeated evenly.

Begin slowly, practising the thumb melody and the tremolo motion separately. Bring them together only when both layers feel steady: the real challenge is not speed, but an even sound and an unbroken phrase.

Prepare each shift before the final note of the preceding pattern. A relaxed right hand and a clearly shaped bass line will make the harmonic transitions easier to hear while keeping the melody calm.
