The Dumka Op. 59, subtitled Russian Rustic Scene, begins Andantino cantabile as a flexible narrative above widely spaced chords. The theme gradually becomes more animated and ornamented, leading without a break into a much livelier dance.

The Con anima section multiplies repeated chords, offbeat accents and rapid runs. Further accelerations thicken the texture before the opening theme returns, changed by the experience of the dance, and subsides into a restrained short conclusion.
