Brich dem Hungrigen dein Brot places the act of sharing at the centre of a broad chorus in three sections. Opening chords give the text almost architectural clarity; a more mobile section then sets the voices in motion before the transformed return of the beginning. Recorders, oboes and strings differentiate each layer without breaking unity.
The cantata is divided into two parts. A bass recitative and alto aria with violin and oboe extend the first; the second opens with a more assertive bass aria, followed by soprano recitative and a lighter aria. The final chorale gathers these perspectives into a collective conclusion.
In the chorus, rehearse all three sections first as distinct characters, then fix their transitions within a constant pulse. The alto should balance both instrumental partners without forcing projection. Keep ritornellos active in the bass and soprano arias. The final chorale should retain the clarity of the opening text.
