Nun ist das Heil und die Kraft is not a complete multi-movement cantata but a single surviving chorus. The source does not establish with certainty what surrounded it or for which occasion it was written. Its attribution to Johann Sebastian Bach has also been debated, and the record should preserve that uncertainty.
The edition presents two choral groups that answer and join one another in very dense counterpoint. Fugal entries, chordal blocks and divided voices create unusual breadth, but the exact disposition of the original remains difficult to reconstruct. No recitative, aria or final chorale follows in the document.
In rehearsal, first form two genuinely autonomous ensembles and clarify every subject before superimposing them. The continuo should provide a common foundation without flattening the replies. Do not complete the piece with hypothetical movements; its documentary interest also lies in its isolated state and open questions.
