About this work
Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht begins with a sinfonia drawn from the first Brandenburg Concerto. Two horns, three oboes, bassoon and strings give this instrumental prelude almost public breadth, contrasting with the single voice carrying the remainder of the cantata. No choir appears.
The first recitative leads to an aria where three oboes surround the soprano with independent lines. After a second recitative, the last aria narrows the accompaniment around the strings before the concluding chorale. Here again the melody belongs to solo soprano supported by the ensemble rather than four vocal sections.
In the sinfonia, balance winds and strings as a genuine concerto. In the aria with oboes, the soprano must recognise their ritornellos and breathe with their cadences. Recitatives should retain direct diction. In the final chorale, preserve the melody’s simplicity despite the large instrumental forces.
