About this work
This file of Ich habe genug presents the version for bass, oboe, strings and continuo. In the first aria, the oboe states a flexible line that the voice takes up and extends. Bach also reworked the piece for other ranges and instruments, but those versions are not included in this document.
A recitative leads to Schlummert ein, a broad central aria where strings establish a regular sway beneath long phrases. After another recitative, Ich freue mich auf meinen Tod ends the cantata in gigue motion. Neither choir nor chorale interrupts this course, entrusted entirely to the soloist.
In the first aria, bass and oboe must breathe as equal voices. In Schlummert ein, keep the sway alive and plan very long arches from the continuo line. The final aria requires light, even articulation; its joy must not become haste.
