Erfreute Zeit im neuen Bunde begins with an unusually coloured alto aria: two horns, two oboes, solo violin, strings and continuo surround the voice. The violin develops a highly mobile line while horns broaden cadences. Balance among these planes matters more than constant brilliance.
The bass then receives Herr, nun lässest du deinen Diener, where strings in unison frame a chorale melody and passages of recitative. The tenor aria restores the solo violin in faster motion. An alto recitative and Er ist das Heil und selig Licht chorale end five movements.
In the opening, rehearse alto and violin before adding horns and oboes. The bass must distinguish aria, recitative and chorale without breaking the second movement’s continuity. Tenor and violin should agree articulation; keep the final chorale plain after three highly characterised solo forms.
