About this work
Auf Christi Himmelfahrt allein BWV 128 opens with a luminous chorus in which two horns, oboes and strings surround the voices. The soprano carries the hymn, but the other parts fully share its ascending motion.
After a tenor recitative, alto and tenor form a duet with oboes d’amore. A soprano recitative leads not to a chorale but to a broad final bass aria with trumpet.
Keep the horns in service of the vocal line. The duet should retain chamber precision. In the last aria, bass and trumpet share the closing function; coordinate attacks without weighing down the tempo.
