About this work
Uns ist ein Kind geboren BWV 142 was published under Bach’s name, but that attribution is no longer accepted. The work is often associated with Johann Kuhnau, although this proposal does not justify absolute certainty here.
An instrumental concerto opens the eight movements. Two choruses frame recitatives and arias for bass, tenor and alto; the last chorus closes the cantata directly without a separate harmonised chorale.
