Lobe den Herrn, meine Seele BWV 143 survives as a festive New Year cantata, but its attribution to Bach remains disputed. That uncertainty should accompany the listening rather than being erased by the BWV number.
The opening chorus joins three horns, timpani, strings and voices. A chorale, soprano aria, tenor recitative, tenor aria and bass aria lead to the concluding chorus.
Balance the horns above the choir without covering words. The chorale needs simple grounding, after which each solo returns to a smaller scale. In the last chorus, build the entries before adding full festive power.
