The fifth Partita BWV 829, published in 1730 and later included in the first part of the Clavier-Übung, opens with a brilliant Praeambulum. Rapid runs, chords and imitation establish an energy that is transformed across the following six dances.

The Allemande unfolds a continuous line, the Corrente lightens the pulse and the Sarabande slows the gesture around expressive dissonances. Tempo di Minuetto and Passepied condense the motifs before a final Gigue whose entries answer one another with force.

Identify bass and principal voices before settling fingering. Give each dance its own weight without breaking the unity of the cycle; in the Praeambulum and Gigue, increase speed only while the imitative exchanges remain audible.
