About this work
This document contains not one cadenza but three alternatives for the first movement of Piano Concerto No. 1. Each grows from the concerto’s material, then stretches it differently through chords, arpeggios, changes of register and octave passages.
Compare their routes before choosing: where does the theme remain immediately recognisable, where is tension suspended, and how long does the music take to reach the final trill? The longest option is not automatically the most convincing for a given tempo or hall.
Practise each cadenza as a complete form, with destinations and silences, rather than as a display of fingers. The final trill needs enough energy to summon the orchestra’s return; prepare the following bar as well, even though it is not included in this PDF.
