The last movement of the ‘Emperor’ Concerto grows out of the Adagio’s ending: the piano already sketches its theme before decisively launching the Rondo. That passage from expectation to dance belongs to the form and deserves preparation even when the finale is rehearsed separately.

The refrain combines a broad rhythmic gesture with highly mobile keyboard replies. The orchestra supplies more than power: it takes up accents, divides the phrase and transforms the space around the soloist. Episodes need to retain the same dancing kernel.

Stabilise the rhythm before seeking maximum volume. Piano octaves and chords benefit from being directed towards the next bar. In the coda, retain a reserve of sound and a precise bass so that the final breadth remains articulated.
