About this work

The Larghetto begins with a calm melody entrusted to the orchestra. The violin does not repeat it literally: it surrounds, extends and moves it into the high register, so that each new statement sounds both familiar and freer.

The challenge is to ornament without losing the line. Locate bass and cadences beneath the solo figures; they show where to breathe and which notes genuinely need to carry. Woodwinds join the dialogue with colours that must be allowed to emerge.

Practise long sustained notes with a bow speed that leaves room to direct the phrase ending. The orchestra needs to support without thickening. The close does not seal the movement: a violin transition opens the Rondo directly, and that continuity should remain audible.
