String Quartet Op. 76 No. 1 in G major brings two violins, viola and cello into an Allegro con spirito in which the same motif moves from unison into dialogue. Replies quickly draw closer and accompanying roles change without leaving the first violin to carry the argument alone.

The Adagio sostenuto then stretches long lines over a calm pulse. A Presto Menuetto restores incisive energy, while the Allegro ma non troppo finale multiplies imitation, displaced accents and returns of the motif in several registers.

Rehearse openings without a visible leader: breath, upbeat and bow length must be shared. In the Adagio, tune sustained notes before adding vibrato; in the fast movements, pass each motif on without changing its articulation.
