Le trombone module la hauteur principalement grâce à sa coulisse. Ce geste continu lui permet des attaques franches, un legato très lié et des glissandos caractéristiques. À l’orchestre, il peut renforcer la masse des cuivres, soutenir l’harmonie ou faire entendre une ligne soliste d’une grande noblesse.

Ténor, basse et clés de lecture

Le trombone ténor et le trombone basse ne couvrent pas exactement les mêmes besoins. La partie précise normalement l’instrument attendu. En musique classique, l’écriture passe couramment par la clé de fa, mais aussi par les clés d’ut pour les lignes plus hautes.

Les déplacements rapides de coulisse, les passages aigus, l’endurance et les longues phrases sont des repères utiles pour évaluer une partition. Une pièce avec piano doit inclure la partie séparée de trombone et l’accompagnement. Dans un trio ou un chœur de trombones, vérifiez le nombre de voix : un conducteur complet n’est pas toujours pratique pour chaque exécutant.
