About this work

Oboe, bassoon, strings and continuo accompany its continuous five-movement design.

Two large choruses frame the journey. Between them, bass and then tenor each sing psalm text while a chorale voice superimposes a different stanza; a central chorus articulates these two scenes.

Treat the forty-nine pages as one progression. In layered movements, give psalm and chorale texts distinct colours without separating them rhythmically. The choruses need independent lines and cadences carried fully through.
